Irmo to receive $4.66 million in federal aid

The town of Irmo has been allocated 4.66 million dollars from the American Rescue Plan.

The plan laid out by the Biden administration grants the state of South Carolina 3.8 billion dollars. This money is dispersed through the state to counties, towns and municipalities. 350 billion dollars in direct federal aid went to states, territories, tribes, counties and municipalities.

This includes the $1400 for million of Americans. Columbia should receive 26 million while Chapin will receive 660,000 dollars. Lexington County will receive 58 million and Richland County will get 81 million. North Charleston is slated for 43 million.

“This is was totally unexpected,” said Mayor Barry Walker, Sr. “But due to the hardships of this past  year this money will be gladly accepted.”

The town would have until December of 2024 to spend the money.
