SC Law Enforcement Memorial Service on State House Grounds, Nov. 6th

South Carolina’s Fraternal Order of the Police is dedicated to the advancement and protection of law enforcement officers, the promotion of officer benefits, and the fostering of enforcement of law and order.

The Fraternal Order of Police is the world’s largest organization of sworn law enforcement officers, with more than 355,000 members in more than 2,200 lodges. We are the voice of those who dedicate their lives to protecting and serving our communities. We are committed to improving the working conditions of law enforcement officers and the safety of those we serve through education, legislation, information, community involvement, and employee representation. No one knows the dangers and the difficulties faced by today’s police officers better than another officer, and no one knows police officers better than the FOP.

Many South Carolinians are not aware that there is a Law Enforcement Monument on the State House grounds near the Assembly Street side in front of the Dennis Building #18 on the State House map of monuments and marks. This Monument was dedicated in Feb. 2005 and each year since there has been a service to celebrate and honor the lives of our fallen officers across this great state. The state chapter of C.O.P.S. Concerns of Police Survivors asked us for the time of year to be changed other than May during National Police Week for this Memorial Service due to the amount of traveling they do in May across the state and to Washington DC. This year’s fall event is our 15th year and even more important being due to the COVID-19 the normal schedule in May had to be canceled for in-person attendance. Our event is outdoors as always scheduled for Friday, Nov. 6th at 6:00 pm at the Monument where the lives of one line-of-duty death from 2019 Marion Co. Sheriff Deputy Michael Latu and 23 historical fallen officers dating back 1864 to 1958 will be celebrated that have all been added to the monument this year. Our Special Keynote Speaker is South Carolina Speaker of the House Jay Lucas.

We the SC FOP State Lodge thank the media for the great coverage you provided over the last few years and we invite each of you to join us again for this special event this year. Last year we had over 100 in attendance celebrating the lives of our fallen brothers and sisters that gave the ultimate sacrifice.
