Just four months removed from playing in the state championship game, former Irmo quarterback A.J. Brand was making an impression on the college level.
The Virgina Tech freshman led an 11-play scoring drive during the Spring Game at Lane Stadium. He rushed for 35 of the Hokies’ 77 yards on the drive capped by his 12-yard touchdown run.
Brand is one of three freshman backing up Kyron Drones. Redshirt freshman Davi Belfort and Kelden Ryan are also seeking playing time leading into the Aug. 31 Aflac Kickoff Game against South Carolina in Atlanta, Ga.
Former Irmo wide receiver Donovan Murph is set to graduate in June. For now, the University of South Carolina signee has made himself present on the sidelines during spring practices.
