A woman bank customer was arrested by Irmo Police following an incident at SAFE Federal Credit Union on Dutch Fork Rd. just past Ballentine. At 12:58pm on Thursday, June 12, officers responded to a report of an armed bank robbery. When IPD arrived on the scent the suspect had already fled.
After interviewing witnesses, it was learned that the suspect was Tiffany N. Wright, 41, of Columbia. She had entered the bank upset about an issue with her account. During the exchange with employees she claimed to possess a gun and made threatening statements about shooting someone. Wright didn’t reveal a weapon but officers had a name and description.
“We were glad that this concluded without becoming a serious incident,” said Irmo Police Chief Bobby Dale. “I’d like to thank SLED’s involvement for helping us find the suspect quickly and for the assist by Richland County Sheriff’s Department”
Working closely with SLED (South Carolina Law Enforcement Division), Wright was apprehended around 3:30pm. Not long after the incident occurred It was reported that law enforcement knew the suspect and that an arrest was imminent.
Wright was charged with Aggravated Breach of Peace and three counts of Assault and Battery in the 2nd Degree. She was booked into Alvin S. Glenn Detention Center.
