Cornerstone Church will host Founded as a Christian Nation? Reflections on America 250 – An Evening with Thomas S. Kidd April 12 from 6:30 – 9 pm.
Kidd (BA and MA Clemson University; PhD University of Notre Dame) is Research Professor of Church History and John and Sharon Yeats Endowed Chair of Baptist Studies at Midwestern Baptist Theological Seminary and Senior Research Scholar at Baylor University’s Institute for Studies of Religion.
He is one of the foremost authorities on the role of religion in colonial and revolutionary America. Among his numerous books on American religious history are Thomas Jefferson: A Biography of Spirit and Flesh (2022); Who Is an Evangelical?: The History of a Movement in Crisis (2019); Benjamin Franklin: The Religious Life of a Founding Father (2017); and George Whitefield: America’s Spiritual Founding Father (2014), all from Yale University Press.
Kidd has also written for various media outlets including The Washington Post and the Wall Street Journal. He blogs at Evangelical History on the Gospel Coalition website.
Kidd will discuss the topic of the role of Christianity in the nation’s founding. After a short break he will answer questions submitted by the audience. At about 8:15 the program will conclude with a reception and roundtable, where guests can interact with the speaker. A limited number of Kidd’s recent books will be available for purchase ($15 each, cash or check).
