Class of 1953 holds anniversary session

Some members of Columbia High School Class of 1953 met for lunch on Wednesday, October 18, 2023 at Ocean View Seafood on Broad River Rd to celebrate the 70th Anniversary of their High School Graduation.

It was organized by Sybil Nobles Long and 13 classmates plus three spouses attended. There were 135 graduates in the class. After much socializing and eating, each classmate spoke about their lives after high school. Stories of marriages, families, military service, church participation, college attendance, careers, hobbies, as well as memories of high school days and growing up in the 1950’s were shared.

Classmates attending were Shirley Hollis Amick, Bobbie Slice Bell, Martha Williams Blanks, Frank Callcott, Lyle Campbell (wife Mary Lou), Rosann Schwartz Canady (husband Daniel) Nadine Hallman Cantey, Sybil Nobles Long, Mittie McNinch McLean, Ernest “Pelo” Nichols, Jean Dowling O’Daniel Nichols, Cunningham P. Thomas (wife Mary), Russell Templeton.
The classmate who traveled the farthest was Frank Callcott from Greenville. The rest live in Columbia and the surrounding areas.
