Comprehensive Land Use Plan Meetings

Do you live in Irmo?  Do you work in Irmo?  Do you love Irmo?  Now is the time to let us know how you feel about our town and what we can do to make it better.

The Town of Irmo is proud to announce a series of public meetings taking place on May 1st and 2nd where you can learn more about where the Town is right now and we can learn where you want it to go.  These are drop-in meetings – there is no schedule or presentation, so you can just stop by when you can.  Whether you can make it to the meetings or not, we also have a survey where you can tell us about your vision for Irmo.

The meeting schedule is

  • Wednesday, May 1, 5:00 – 7:00 pm at the Irmo Municipal Building, 7300 Woodrow St
  • Thursday, May 2, 9:00 – 10:30 am at Loveland Coffee, 7475 Carlisle St
  • Thursday, May 2, 5:00 – 7:00 pm at the Harbison Theater at Midlands Tech, 7300 College St

These meetings are all a part of Vision 2035, the Town of Irmo’s newest Comprehensive Land Use Plan.  The Town has been working with a core group of citizens – our Steering Committee – to better understand the needs of our residents and the business community.  We’ve also held a series of workshops with various constituent groups such as state and county officials, utilities, and the school and religious communities.  Now we want to hear from you.

What is a Comprehensive Land Use Plan?

A Comprehensive Land Use Plan, or Comp Plan, is required of every town and county every ten years.  It is an opportunity to think about how the town is growing and how we want it to grow.  What parts of town make sense for commercial development?  What parts of town should be parks or conservation areas?  What will we need to support growth?  More police officers?  More public works crew?  By thinking about and answering these questions now, the Comp Plan will help the Mayor and Town Council make good decisions for the next decade.

What can you do?

The most important thing you can do is let us know what you think.  Please come out to our meetings, and if you can’t make these there will be more.  Also, you can take our survey by taking a picture of the QR code on the accompanying ad or by visiting surveymonkey.com/r/IrmoVision.  The survey will take less than ten minutes, but it will really help us understand your thoughts about Irmo, what we’re doing well, what we can do better and how we can fulfill our mission:  to be a place where people and businesses want to call home.
