Conservation District Giving Away Free Seeds

The Richland Soil and Water Conservation District (RSWCD) is once again offering free seeds to the community through its popular Seed Sanctuary program—just in time for fall planting.

Richland County residents may pick up up to four free packets of vegetable, herb, and wildflower seeds at two locations:

  • Richland County Administration Building (2020 Hampton Street, Columbia)

  • Richland Library Eastover (608 Main Street, Eastover)

Seeds can also be requested by mail using an online form at tinyurl.com/32wsab2c.

In addition, RSWCD staff will be bringing Pop-Up Seed Sanctuary events to community gatherings throughout the growing season. Groups interested in hosting a seed giveaway can email Chelsea Holliday, administrative assistant for outreach and community engagement. Appearances are limited and scheduled on a first-come, first-served basis.

Launched in 2020, the Seed Sanctuary was created to encourage home gardening, improve food security, and support pollinator conservation. Since then, the program has distributed more than 47,400 seed packets with the help of staff and community volunteers.
