RICHLAND COUNTY – In recognition of National Community Development Week (April 21–25), Richland County’s Community Development Division celebrated the positive impact of federal programs on local families through a series of events.
The week kicked off with a news conference Monday at Transitions Homeless Center in Columbia, where officials highlighted recent upgrades to the center’s Day Facility, made possible by $560,000 in Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) funding.
The improvements were celebrated by County Councilmembers Tyra Little (District 3) and Paul Livingston (District 4), as well as County Administrator Leonardo Brown and other staff.
Transitions, which provides critical services to individuals experiencing homelessness, has been a key partner in utilizing federal resources to improve the quality of life for the county’s low- and moderate-income residents.
The event underscored how strategic use of CDBG funds supports community infrastructure, services, and housing initiatives that foster long-term impact.
