It’s an Irmo world in Class 5A football once again.
Both 3-time Division I champion Dutch Fork and Division II runner-up Irmo sit 1-2 in this week’s S.C. Prep Football Media rankings. They were in a similar position near the end of last season when both teams faced each other for the Region 4-5A title.
The Silver Foxes improved to 3-0 on the season with a 42-14 win at Gray Collegiate Academy. It was their 24th consecutive victory and eighth straight on the road.
For the third straight week, Dutch Fork played from behind. The War Eagles took a 7-0 lead with 10:48 left in the first quarter on a 58-yard touchdown pass by Tyler Waller to C.J. Gleaton.
The Silver Foxes answered with a touchdown run by Quintin Wilson and a 38-yard punt return TD by Sheldon Shine.
Another touchdown reception by Gleaton from Waller tied the game at 14-14 in the first quarter. The Silver Foxes outscored Gray Collegiate 28-0 the rest of the way as the defense sacked Waller seven times.
Defensive end Jaden Wuerth had 2.5 sacks and Luciano Cesario and Mario Anderson each had two.
Over at W.C. Hawkins Stadium, the Yellow Jackets improved to 4-0 on the season. It was a matchup of unbeatens with Carolina Forest.
Quarterback Drevon Dopson threw four touchdown passes and Maleek Miller accounted for three scores in the 51-21 win.
Younger brother Corey Miller also rushed for two touchdowns and linebackers Jevonte Hill and Brandon Goldsborough each had 14 tackles.
Both teams travel to the Lowcountry and Grand Strand, respectively, to close out non-region play before a bye week.
