Dutch Fork, Irmo win weather-shortened games

By Thomas Grant Jr.

Dutch Fork and Irmo each played Week 2 games in the Northeast area last Friday.

Lightning cut short both contests by halftime with the Silver Foxes and Yellow Jackets coming away with decisive wins.

Dutch Fork defeated Ridge View 35-13 in the inaugural Bojangles Ridge View Kickoff Classic. Quarterback Jaxon Knotts had four touchdowns (two passing, two rushing) and 242 total yards of offense for the 4-time defending Class 5A champions.

The Silver Foxes trailed 13-7 in the first quarter. Senior wide receiver Khristian Jackson scored on a 73-yard touchdown reception and Raymond Jones returned a fumble by Knotts for a 73-yard score.

Dutch Fork proceeded to score 28 unanswered points. With 2:08 left in the second quarter and Ridge View at the Silver Foxes 34, played was stopped due to lightning.

After a 90-minute delay, the game was stopped and the two schools agreed not to resume play.

Irmo ran into a similar scenario at Harry Parone Stadium. The Yellow Jackets jumped out to a 37-0 lead on Spring Valley at halftime and the game was called after a delay.

Quarterback Brittain Davis had two touchdown passes and Jevonte Hill had a 20-yard interception return TD. Zay Chew and Rick Vanderhorst both had rushing touchdowns with Alabama commit Tai Phillips out of action.

It was the WACH 57 Whataburger Friday Night Rivals Game of the Week.
