Empty Chair Rally held Saturday, Sept. 6

On Saturday, Sept. 6, families and politicians gathered in Irmo to share stories and information about the fight against the fentanyl epidemic in the United States.

Unveiling another billboard to help stir awareness, the Empty Chair symbolizes the loss of loved ones to 

Attorney General Allen Wilson talked about his office helping in two major fentanyl drug busts this year and the need for community awareness. “We need the legislature to be harder on this,” said Wilson. “Every chair is a lost soul and I don’t want these loses to be in vain.”

Narcan was available for those to take home and 

“Just one pill or even a small sliver of fentanyl is enough to destroy a family and ruin so many lives,” said Irmo Mayor Bill Danielson. “This is truly a very dark part of our communities and I hope that we can make the changes needed to turn it around.”

The attendees lined up on St. Andrews Rd. holding signs and pictures of loved ones for nearly 3 hours. Another rally is planned for December and next year they plan to bring this awareness to the legislature.
