Former Lexington County deputy faces harassment, misconduct charges

Lorna Shay Elders, a former Lexington County deputy, surrendered herself at the Lexington County Detention Center on Monday, where she was arrested by State Law Enforcement Division agents on three charges. According to detention center records, Elders, 37, faces charges of first-degree harassment, misconduct in office, and the disclosure of confidential information.

Lexington County Sheriff Jay Koon stated, “When I became aware of Ms. Elders’ actions, I immediately launched an internal investigation, and Elders resigned from her position as a deputy sheriff on Feb. 15 while that investigation was ongoing. Deputies are held to a higher standard, and maintaining a high level of trust is a key part of that.”

Elders was booked into the Lexington County Detention Center on Monday morning but has since been released after meeting the conditions of her bond.
