Golf Tips for Seniors: Turning Back

One of the keys to distance is making a full shoulder turn. On the backswing, the big muscles should wind up so that your shoulders turn about 90 degrees, with your back facing the target.

Sound impossible? Not if your hips help out by turning about 45 degrees. To make this easier, point your front knee slightly behind the ball. This simple move not only frees your hips, but also allows your weight to shift naturally onto your back foot.

Practice this turn, and you’ll discover a smoother, more powerful backswing that sets you up for added distance.

👉 Next Week: We’ll focus on the forward swing—finishing the motion and gaining maximum distance from a full turn on both sides of the ball.
