Greg’s Groceries Program Feeds Residents at Coopers Trace, Irmo

Residents at Coopers Trace in Irmo received boxes filled with edible, non-perishable food items from the Irmo Police Department. This initiative is part of Serve & Connect, a Columbia-based non-profit organization working to strengthen positive relationships between police officers and the communities they serve.

The program, known as Greg’s Groceries, distributed more than 3,000 boxes filled by law enforcement officers and South Carolina Law Enforcement Division (SLED) staff. The non-perishable food items are donated by Walmart store #2214. The program, which started in 2017, feeds individuals and families in need throughout the state and has gained nationwide attention from other law enforcement agencies.

Greg’s Groceries was launched in 2017 to honor fallen police officer Greg Alia. The program not only provides essential food items to those in need but also contributes to building trust and positive connections between law enforcement and communities. Irmo Mayor Bill Danielson, Coopers Trace manager Ashley Ackerman, Serve & Connect Director of Operations, Kimberly Dennis, Amy Earl, and Irmo Police Officer Chris Kaderley were among those involved in distributing the food boxes.
