The Town of Irmo held a council workshop on Tuesday, December 9 in the municipal building located at 7300 Woodrow Street.
Council reviewed a series of budget amendments totaling several hundred thousand dollars. Proposed allocations included $50,000 for Irmo Little League, $30,000 each for Universal Outreach and SC Career Kids, $27,500 for MPA Strategies, $53,288 for a Chevy Silverado for code enforcement, $28,585 for Irmo Police Department weapons, $19,000 for a Hustler mower, $100,000 for the Rawl’s Creek basketball court, $20,000 for a Team IA scanning project, $40,000 for a temporary events manager position, $20,000 for two K-9 units, $60,000 for welcome-to-town signage and $3,500 for a council retreat.
Some amendments were pre-approved by council which included$28.585 for the purchase of Glock pistols for the Irmo Police Department and $53,288 for a Chevy Silverado for code enforcement. MPA Strategies was also pre-approved to serve and PIO for the town.
“Irmo Little League brings in a multitude of business to this town,” said Mayor Bill Danielson. The organization boasts more than 800 children involved with the league. “I want then to know they have our support,” said Danielson.
Another topic of discussion was changing the procurement procedures ordinance which was adopted in 2001. The new revisions add a more modern approach to purchasing and procurement to improve efficiency, transparency and compliance.
Trash pickup will increase by $1.19 per month per home for the purchase of new roll carts. The cost of the carts is $288,910.88 and will be paid out over five years. The new carts have a 95 gallon capacity. The old recycling carts will be used for yard waste.
Two annexations will be on the next regular council agency which includes 20 acre tract for Water walk and a smaller track near Meetze Plumbing which currently houses Celtic Works.
Richland County is purchasing a portion of land at the corner of Broad River Rd. and Royal Tower as part of the Broad River Road widening project. The county is offering $10,200 for the land to be used as a sewer utility easement. Currently the Friarsgate neighborhood sign is on the lot and will not be affected bythe purchase.
An Events Manager Position is being offered by the town with a six month $40,000 salary. The manager would handle all events in Irmo including the Okra Strut.
