Irmo looked to snag the “lead driver” role in Region 5-4A last Friday for “Homecoming”.
It was a battle of “Yellow Jackets” with the host team looking to hand visiting North Augusta its first region loss.
Instead, Irmo found itself on the losing end of the 25-16 matchup. The Yellow Jackets of North Augusta scored 11 unanswered points in the second half to take the victory.
Quarterback Brittain Davis had a rushing touchdown and threw a 37-yard touchdown pass to Jay Eaddy. He also had two interceptions, including one returned by Deante Darden for the go-ahead 37-yard score in the third quarter.
North Augusta also recorded two safeties in the second half. The first came on a blocked field goal and the second when Davis was flagged for intentional grounding out of the endzone.
“We had two weeks of practices during the bye week, apparently we haven’t mastered it,” Irmo head coach Aaron Brand said. “It’s frustrating, but we’re just not as good as we need to be. We’re just flat out not from the head coach to the last player on the roster.”
Irmo (3-3, 0-1) looks to rebound on the road against South Aiken. It’s the first of two straight road games in Aiken County.
The game featured three Shrine Bowl selections on the defensive line. Simeon Jones of North Augusta and Jaiden Bryant and Tyrone Jennings will team up Dec. 19 in Spartanburg for the 90th Shrine Bowl of the Carolinas.
