Irmo, Dutch Fork prepare for region play

By Thomas Grant Jr.

Precious Bross is closing out her Irmo High School career swinging for the fences.

The University of Georgia-bound senior cracked her fourth home run of the season in Monday’s 15-0 victory over American Leadership Academy.  It was the second straight game with a home run for Bross, who once again leads the Lady Yellow Jackets with 10 RBI.

Three of Bross’ homers have occurred in the last four games to go with a .545 batting average with a .633 on-base percentage.

Campbell University commit Lyrical Bennett also had a 3-run homer for the Lady Yellow Jackets last Monday.

Without playing a Region 5-4A game, Irmo is 2-0 as Richland Northeast was unable to field a team this season. It will have two games against Gray Collegiate and crosstown rival Dutch Fork before playing the region “opener” on March 26 against Ridge View.

The Lady Silver Foxes open Region 4-5A play Thursday at home against River Bluff. Dutch Fork looks to snap a 2-game losing streak following a 5-4 victory over Lugoff-Elgin in which it scored four runs in the bottom of the sixth inning.
