Irmo was riding high with a 3-game winning streak and number-one ranking in the South Carolina Prep Media Class 4A prior to last Friday’s visit to Dorman.
Things got off to an inauspicious start against the Class 5A 3 rd ranked Cavaliers. A safety left the Yellow Jackets in a 2-0 hole when lightning forced a 1-hour delay.
Once play resumed, the Yellow Jackets scored 14 unanswered points. Quarterback Brittain Davis threw touchdown passes to Jay Eady and Demarion Arrington to give them a 14-2 lead.
Irmo did not score again. Dorman quickly scored back-to-back touchdowns following a turnover on special teams to tie the game.
The Yellow Jackets had the football with 45 seconds left inside Dorman territory. An interception at the 19-yard line allowed Dorman to run out the clock for overtime.
Irmo looked to score on its first possession, but missed the field goal. The Cavaliers took over and Nick Means scored on a 10-yard run for the 20-14 victory.
The Yellow Jackets (3-2) are idle this week. They open Region 5-4A play at home against North Augusta.
