IRMO, SC – During the Greater Irmo Chamber of Commerce luncheon on Wednesday, November 13, Irmo Fire Chief Mike Sonefeld recognized two prominent community leaders for their ongoing support of the Irmo Fire District. Irmo Town Administrator Courtney Dennis and Greater Irmo Chamber of Commerce CEO/President Kerry Powers were presented with a commemorative plaque bearing a hand-painted replica of fallen firefighter James “J” Muller’s helmet shield. Muller tragically lost his life in May 2023 while battling an apartment fire.
Chief Sonefeld highlighted the importance of community support in honoring Muller’s memory and strengthening the fire district’s efforts. “This plaque is a tribute not only to J Muller but also to those who continue to stand with our firefighters,” he said. Both Dennis and Powers expressed deep gratitude for the recognition and reiterated their commitment to supporting the brave men and women of the Irmo Fire District.
The luncheon served as a poignant reminder of the sacrifices made by local firefighters and the crucial role that community partnerships play in maintaining a safe and resilient Irmo.
