The Irmo Fire District made local homes safer over the weekend, installing new smoke alarms in more than 30 homes in the New Friarsgate neighborhood as part of its Smoke Alarm Blitz program.
This initiative provides free smoke alarms to residents who need them, helping to save lives by ensuring early fire detection. The program is made possible through partnerships with the American Red Cross, South Carolina State Fire, and Kingsley Water Damage Restoration.

To keep volunteers fueled for installation day, Mission BBQ Columbia generously provided food.

For more information about the Smoke Alarm Blitz or to request a free smoke alarm, residents can contact the Irmo Fire District.
