Irmo Girl Scouts earn Silver Award

Three Irmo Girl Scouts from Troop 785 have earned the Silver Award.

Megan Burgess (13), Pearl Owens (13), and Ari Tyler (13) began their project by presenting a community service project plan to Principal Shannon Fincannon of Irmo Elementary School.

Together, the scouts and Fincannon established a priorities list of potential school improvement projects.

“Irmo Elementary could not be more proud of the ‘heart work’ our Girl Scouts are providing. The time and dedication from our young leaders will be enjoyed for years to come” said Fincannon.

In the end, the girls donated more than 200 hours to the project which produced:

  • Two 4-square boards hand painted onto the school’s blacktop play area.
  • One hopscotch board which were hand painted onto the school’s blacktop play area.
  • Seven refurbished wood playground benches inside the playground.
  • Two new wooden benches for the school’s soccer field.
  • One new picnic table for the school’s soccer field.

The Girl Scouts of Troop 785 would like to thank their woodworking mentor Chris Goralcyzk for donating multiple weekends to the project, the Stier Supply Company for donating the wood resources, and Principal Fincannon for supporting the scouts’ efforts. The Troop is led by Crystal Owens.

Troop 785 is sponsored by East Lake Community Church, located at 10057 Broad River Road.
