On Monday, November 11, diplomats, veterans, and local leaders gathered at Irmo Veterans Park to honor Veterans Day. The event, led by Irmo Town Councilman and Mayor Pro Tem Erik Sickinger, included a heartfelt speech from Sickinger, who shared what Veterans Day means to him. Sickinger, affiliated with VFW Post 174 and Commander of the Sons of the American Legion (SAL) at the post, spoke about the significance of the day and the ongoing appreciation for those who have served.
The ceremony was attended by notable officials, including Irmo Mayor Bill Danielson, Councilwoman Phyllis Coleman, Representative Jay Kilmartin, Councilman Gabriel Penfield, Councilwoman Barb Waldman, Richland County Councilman Jason Branham, and Senator Tameika Isaac Devine. Veterans from VFW Post 174 were also present, contributing to a day of gratitude and respect for all veterans.
Refreshments were served after the ceremony, fostering fellowship among the attendees and underscoring the community’s dedication to honoring its veterans.
