Nearly 750 young players took the field at Friarsgate Park on March 7 as Irmo Little League kicked off its new season.
Opening Day began with a parade of teams at 9 a.m., followed by ceremonies that included the presentation of the 2025 Volunteer of the Year award to coach Mike Beckworth. League president Bobby Jensen thanked the volunteers and parents who helped organize the season.

Irmo Mayor Bill Danielson threw out the ceremonial first pitch after the introduction of the league’s national and state championship teams.
“You all have made a profound impact on our community,” Danielson said. “We’re all extremely proud of each and every one of you.”
Danielson also noted the town’s continued support for the program.
“We made it a line item in our budget every year,” he said. “This is that important to me and my council.”
More than 1,000 young athletes are expected to participate in Irmo Little League once the school year ends.
Friarsgate Park is located on Chadford Road next to H. E. Corley Elementary School.
