A year ago saw Irmo Little League embark on a summer for the ages in baseball and softball.
A total of four teams won both the regional and state titles. This was highlighted by the dramatic run of the All-Star Majors who finished a South Carolina-best fifth place at the Little League Baseball World Series.
This past weekend saw the Junior, Intermediate and Senior baseball teams win their respective state titles.
Playing at home at Friarsgate Park, the Juniors defeated Greenville 10-3 in the deciding game Saturday. Irmo won the first game by a decisive 26-0 score on Friday, only for Greenville to rebound in Game Two 9-7 later in the day.
Irmo will once again play before the home fans when the Southeast Regional starts July 24 at Friarsgate Park.
At Irmo High School, the Seniors went 3-0 in a state tournament which was delayed by rainfall. It broke open a 2-2 game against Summerville to win 19-2, followed by back-to-back 14-0 wins over Barriers Island to claim the title.
The Seniors will now head to Safety Harbor, Fla. for the Regionals starting July 23.
In Darlington, Irmo Little League swept the host team to claim the Intermediate state championship. It won by the scores of 14-1 and 10-0 and will open play in Tennessee July 23 for the Southeast Regional Tournament.
