Irmo Middle Wrestling prepares for season opener

The Irmo Middle School Wrestling Team is gearing up for a dual meet against Hand Middle School this Wednesday, December 4th. The match is set to take place at 6 pm at Irmo High School.

The meet will mark a milestone for Irmo Middle School, as two female wrestlers, Darionah Burch and London Kyle, make their competitive debuts. The young athletes are eager to showcase their skills and pave the way for future female wrestlers in the program.

Fans will also get the chance to witness wrestling excellence from seasoned champions. Team Captain Luke Sevilla, a two-time State Wrestling Champion, is expected to lead by example. Alongside him is standout wrestler Caleb Casillas, a South Carolina State Placer in the SCYWA Wrestling League, who brings experience and grit to the mat.

The Yellowjackets are coming off their best season ever in 2023-24, and this year, they aim to surpass their previous achievements. Under the guidance of Head Coach Tommy Sevilla and Brandon Owens, the team has been working to refine their skills, strengthen their strategies, and prepare for the season opener.

“We’re thrilled to open the season with such a competitive matchup,” said Coach Sevilla. “Our wrestlers have been training hard, and we’re excited to see them perform. This meet is about more than just competition; it’s about bringing our community together to support these incredible athletes.”

Irmo Middle School Wrestling invites the community to come out and support the Yellowjackets. Admission is $6.
