IRMO, S.C. – To help preserve the character, safety, and appearance of Irmo’s residential neighborhoods and low-density commercial areas, the Irmo Town Council is reminding residents and business owners of the town’s parking restrictions for heavy-duty and commercial vehicles.
These rules apply only to properties located within the official boundaries of the Town of Irmo and cover all types of parking—on the street, off the street, public, and private property.
Vehicles That ARE Allowed to Park:
- Personal or passenger vehicles, even those with business logos or signage
- Heavy-duty pickup trucks (e.g., F-250, F-350, F-450) when used for personal transportation
- Vehicles actively making deliveries or performing services
- Moving trucks currently being used for a move
- Commercial vehicles parked entirely inside a garage or enclosed building, out of public view
Vehicles That Are NOT Allowed to Park:
Even if unmarked, these vehicles are prohibited from parking in residential or low-density commercial zones:
- Tractor-trailers, including detached cabs or trailers
- Box trucks (such as U-Haul or Penske rentals)
- Stake trucks, flatbeds, dump trucks, tankers
- Tow trucks and stretch limousines
- Vehicles transporting industrial or construction materials (e.g., shipping containers, large equipment, boats)
- Construction machinery such as backhoes, skid steers, or excavators
- Any vehicle with eight or more wheels
- Any vehicle that requires a Commercial Driver’s License (CDL)
