Richland County announced that Irmo residents will pay more for sewer privileges beginning April 2, 2021. For a household currently paying $55 a month the rate would hike up to $64 a month. The utility said that the rate would have changed on July 1, 2020 but due to COVID-19 pandemic, Richland County Council deferred the increase to ‘prevent hardships during these difficult times.’
The Richland County Utilities Department stated in a letter mailed to residents in Irmo affected by the hike that the new rates will ‘hep fun operational and maintenance costs, as well as capital improvements, which will result in a reliable, sustainable wastewater system.’
