Irmo Returns to Class 4A Under New Region Alignment

By Thomas Grant Jr.

Irmo High School finds itself in familiar territory as it returns to Class 4A under the South Carolina High School League’s newly finalized region realignment.

The Yellow Jackets will compete against a new set of opponents, with the biggest change coming geographically. Rather than facing crosstown and Lexington County rivals, Irmo has been placed in Region 4-4A, which is made up primarily of schools from the Central Savannah River Area (CSRA).

Joining Irmo in Region 4-4A are North Augusta, Aiken, South Aiken, Fox Creek, and Midland Valley.

Meanwhile, Region 4-5A will remain unchanged and continue to include Chapin, Dutch Fork, Lexington, River Bluff, and White Knoll.

Schools will have the opportunity to appeal their region placement to their respective classification Executive Committee from February 3–5.
