Irmo unites to bring Chipper home

After 73 days, Summer and Stephen Pearrow’s beloved cockatiel, Chipper, has finally made it back home, thanks to the support of the Irmo community and beyond. Chipper was discovered 24 miles away in Prosperity after weeks of uncertainty and fear that he might never be found.

Chipper’s journey began when he unexpectedly went missing, leaving the Pearrows heartbroken. But the story took a hopeful turn when Lori Burnside Kunkel posted about spotting a cockatiel in her barn on Facebook. She immediately suspected this bird might belong to someone and reached out to the community.

“He chirps and whistles when I talk to him, almost as if he knew it was time to return,” Kunkel said. Her post quickly spread through local social networks, eventually reaching the Pearrows.

“I don’t always see happy endings in my profession, but today is different,” said Summer Pearrow. “After 73 excruciating days and miles of searching, we finally have Chipper back. He was hungry and exhausted, but he’s safe, and he’s home.”

The Pearrows were overwhelmed by the outpouring of kindness, thoughts, and prayers they received.

“The odds were against us, but because of the Irmo community’s care and concern for a stranger and a little bird, we were reunited. We all needed some good news, and Chipper brought that to us.”
