The Greater Irmo Art Guild and the Town of Irmo proudly announce Josef Berliner as the newest Artist of the Quarter.
A passionate creator who believes it is his “mission and duty” to beautify the world one canvas at a time, Berliner brings a rich history of creativity, achievement, and community involvement to both the guild and the town.
A Lifelong Journey in the Arts
Berliner’s artistic journey begins in childhood, inspired by sketchpads and instructional art books. His talent gains early recognition at just 16 years old, when his work is selected for a national touring exhibition of the Scholastic Art Awards, including a stop at the Columbia Museum of Art.
He continues to develop his skills at the University of South Carolina, studying under accomplished instructors. While his creative foundation remains strong, Berliner later takes an unexpected professional turn, becoming a premier nightclub deejay. During that period, he earns numerous awards across the Southeast. Despite this success, his passion for visual art never fades.
The Vision of Eye-Conic Art Studio
With the full support of his husband and “most honest critic,” Josh, Berliner ultimately returns to his lifelong goal of becoming a professional visual artist. That decision leads to the creation of his personal brand, Eye-Conic Art Studio.
Berliner’s work is defined by:
- Medium: Primarily oil on canvas
- Focus: Portraiture
- Philosophy: A commitment to capturing the inner personality of his subjects rather than simply their outward appearance
His keen attention to detail allows each piece to convey emotion, depth, and individuality.
A Pillar of the Artistic Community
Beyond his studio work, Berliner remains deeply engaged in both regional and international art communities. His artwork appears in local community theaters, private collections around the world, and numerous gallery exhibitions.
He is also an active collaborator with several notable organizations, including:
- The Jasper Project
- Bullets and Bandaids
- Artists for Africa, where he serves as a featured artist for the 2024 Postcard Art Gala
- The Greater Irmo Art Guild
Through his art and community involvement, Josef Berliner continues to enrich Irmo’s cultural landscape and inspire audiences near and far.
