Join the 2024 Citizen’s Police Academy Class

Chief Terrence Green proudly announces that the Lexington Police Department is now accepting applications for the upcoming Citizen’s Police Academy.

The Citizen’s Police Academy is scheduled to commence on Tuesday, March 19, 2024, and will convene on Tuesday evenings for a nine-week duration, with a brief hiatus for spring break. Classes will take place at the Lexington Police Department’s training facility, including visits to off-site locations. Sessions will run from 6:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. each night.

The primary goal of the Citizen’s Police Academy is to offer participants an immersive understanding of the day-to-day operations of the Lexington Police Department. Attendees will enhance their knowledge of the department’s strategic plan and objectives while fostering stronger partnerships with the Town of Lexington community.

The graduation ceremony for the Citizen’s Police Academy is scheduled for Tuesday, May 21, 2024, and will be held at the Town of Lexington Municipal Complex.

Led by personnel from the Lexington Police Department, the course will cover a broad spectrum of topics, including an overview of police operations and organization. Presentations will delve into the Patrol Division, Criminal Investigations Division, Office of Professional Standards, Special Operations Division, and various specialized units within the department.

Applicants must meet certain criteria, including being eighteen years of age, a resident or business owner in the Town of Lexington, and successfully passing a background check conducted by the department. Interested individuals can download the application from the Lexington Police Department website. The Citizen’s Police Academy is limited to 25 participants.

Completion of the Citizen’s Police Academy is a prerequisite for those aspiring to join our Volunteering in Policing Services (V.I.P.S.) group. Additional information about the V.I.P.S. program is available on the Lexington Police Department website.
