Keep the Midlands Beautiful’s (KMB) annual shoe drive fundraiser is now in full swing and will continue through May 31. This community-driven initiative helps support KMB’s mission to engage, inspire, and educate the Midlands to invest in litter prevention, recycling, and beautification.
Anyone can participate by donating new or gently worn shoes at KMB’s office, located at 1305 Augusta Road in West Columbia. Shoe collection bins are conveniently placed on the front porch for easy drop-off.
Businesses, schools, churches, clubs, or neighborhood associations interested in becoming a collection site can contact KMB at 803-733-1139 or [email protected] for more details.
KMB earns money based on the total weight of the donated shoes, with all proceeds supporting programs like litter pickups in Richland and Lexington counties. These funds help purchase essential supplies such as signs, gloves, and litter grabbers for volunteers.
All donated shoes are redistributed through the Funds2Orgs network to micro-entrepreneurs in developing nations, empowering families through small business development.
“We’re so excited for this year’s shoe drive,” said Sydni Wilson, Program Coordinator. “So many people have extra shoes they never wear. We’d love to have them donated to KMB to keep them out of landfills, raise money for our programs, and help families abroad gain economic opportunities. It’s a win-win for everyone involved.”
This year’s shoe drive is sponsored by CMC Recycling.
