Lake Murray Nominated Again for USA Today 10Best Readers’ Choice Award

Lake Murray is once again earning national recognition, securing a nomination for Best Lake for Water Sports in the USA Today 10Best Readers’ Choice Awards for the third consecutive year.

Following its first-place finish in the 2025 rankings, the Capital City/Lake Murray Country Regional Tourism Board is encouraging residents and visitors alike to support the lake in this year’s competition.

Voting is currently underway and will remain open until May 25 at 11:59 a.m. EDT. The public may vote once per day through the USA Today 10Best website. Final results, including the top 10 winners, will be announced on June 3.

The nomination further solidifies Lake Murray’s reputation as a premier destination for water-based recreation, both in the Southeast and nationwide. With approximately 650 miles of shoreline, clear waters, and scenic views, the lake attracts visitors year-round for activities such as kayaking, paddleboarding, jet skiing, wakeboarding, and boating.

“This nomination is a testament to the continued support of our community and the lasting appeal of Lake Murray,” said Vickie Davis, executive director of the tourism board. “After earning the top spot last year, it’s an honor to be recognized again, and we encourage everyone who loves Lake Murray to vote daily and help us do it again.”

Nominees across all 10Best categories are selected by a panel of experts that includes editors from USA Today, 10Best.com, and subject-matter contributors. Final rankings are determined entirely by public vote, highlighting top destinations from across the country.
