A 21-year-old Lexington woman has been charged with murder in connection with a fatal shooting Tuesday night in West Columbia.
Lexington County deputies responded to a home in the 2700 block of Leaphart Road following a 911 call about a gunshot wound. Authorities say the victim, identified by Lexington County Coroner Margaret Fisher as 57-year-old Joel Todd McCullough, was found deceased at the residence, which he owned.
According to Sheriff Jay Koon, a witness told deputies he heard a “loud gunshot” after an argument between McCullough and the suspect, McKenzie Leigh Brady. Brady and McCullough were known to each other prior to the incident, which authorities describe as isolated.
After securing a search warrant, deputies discovered a firearm at the scene. Brady was arrested and taken to the Lexington County Detention Center, where she remains after a magistrate judge denied bond on Wednesday.
Sheriff Koon said detectives are continuing to investigate the events that led up to the shooting.
