Irmo Little League (ILL) will be hosting the Minors Baseball District 3 tournament at Friarsgate Park this weekend, and ILL Minors and Majors Softball teams will also be playing district tournaments on Sunday.
Five baseball teams from three leagues in the district will play for a chance to advance to the state tournament: two each from the ILL and Mid-Carolina Little League and one from the Trenholm Little League.
Tournament play begins Friday afternoon and concludes Tuesday with the championship game(s).
The Minors Irmo Gold team opens the event against Mid-Carolina American Friday at 6 pm, and Irmo Green starts on Saturday at 9:30 am against the winner of Game One — potentially Irmo Gold.
It’s a double-elimination tournament. A team can advance all the way to the championship carrying a single loss, but two losses will eliminate a team from the tournament.
The Minors Softball tournament is a one day event with one ILL team and one Trenholm Little League (TLL) team playing on Sunday at noon and at 4 pm.
They will play two games, and then a third game on Monday if one is needed to break a tie.
In addition, one ILL and one TLL Majors Softball team will play for the District 3 title on Sunday in the same format as the Minors teams, but at 2 pm and 6 pm. There will be a third game on Monday if one is needed to break a tie.
And there is another tournament just ahead. Irmo Little League will also be hosting the Majors District 3 baseball tournament June 23-26.
The Irmo Little League is an all-volunteer organization, and, early this week, the League was looking for a few good volunteers for both weekends of tournaments.
