Local Cadets Sworn in as Officers at Joint Commissioning Ceremony

More than 140 new officers have joined the ranks of the United States Armed Forces following a joint commissioning ceremony held on Friday, May 3. Approximately 30 percent of The Citadel Class of 2024 accepted commissions into various branches, including the Army, Navy, Marine Corps, Air Force, and Space Force. The ceremony took place at McAlister Field House.

During the ceremony, the newly commissioned officers recited their oath and had gold bars pinned on their uniforms by their sponsors. Following this, they gathered on Summerall Field to receive their first salutes as officers.

The Citadel offers a military college education, with about 2,300 members of the S.C. Corps of Cadets not required to serve in the military. However, approximately one-third of each class earns commissions to become officers in various branches of the U.S. military service.

For more than 50 years, The Citadel Graduate College has offered graduate degree, graduate certificate, and evening undergraduate programs, both in-person and online.
