Mayor honor Peace Officers Memorial Day with proclamation

Mayor Bill Danielson proclaimed that all flags on town buildings were to be flown at half mast in honor of National Peace Officers’ Memorial Day on Wednesday, May 15 in recognition of all the police officers that have made the ultimate sacrifice for their communities.

President John F. Kennedy signed the date into law in 1962.

Mayor Danielson read the proclamation to Irmo Police in a ceremony at the Irmo Town Park on Tuesday, May 14.

“It’s an honor to have these men and women serving our town,” said Danielson. “I couldn’t be more proud of them.”

This week marks National Police Week that runs between May 12 until May 18. Ceremonies around the nation include tens of thousands of law enforcement officers from around the world converging on Washington, DC to participate in a number of planned events which honor those that have paid the ultimate sacrifice.
