Midland Striper Club holds July Tournament

Dreher Community Center on the shores of Lake Murray was the site once again for the monthly Midlands Striper Club Youth Fishing Tournament.

About 18 youngsters took part in the July 15 event. A total of 30 striped bass were caught and brought to the scales weighing 129.24 pounds, 13 of whom had two full fish creel.

Here’s the breakdown of division winners:

(10 and Under)

1st place went to Walker Hatfield with a total weight of 13.61 pounds.

2nd place went to Slight McDowell with a total weight of 11.61 pounds.

3rd Place went to Boone Craps with a total weight of 11.02 pounds.

Slight McDowell won the Boys Big Fish Award with a 7.69-pound striped bass.
Hayden Craps won the Girls Big Fish Award with a 5.20-pound striped bass.

(11 and Older)

1st place went to DJ Boyce with a total weight of 13.93 pounds.

2nd place went to Kinsley Ricard with a total weight of 12.33 pounds.

3rd Place went to Mady Dixon with a total weight of 12.29 pounds.

Boyce won the Boys Big Fish Award with a 7.56-pound striped bass. insley Ricard won the Girls Big Fish Award with a 6.31-pound striped bass.

Winner of the Jim Goller Billfish Award was Jonah Masengale.

The Club will return to Lake Murray in September. They will hold a monthly meeting on Aug. 8 at 7 p.m. at the Flight Deck in Lexington.
