IRMO, SC – The June 17, 2025, Irmo Town Council meeting began on a celebratory note as Mike Ward was officially sworn in as the town’s newest council member. Ward earned the seat following a special election on June 3, in which he defeated candidates George Frazier and Ed Greco.
Ward, who has been a familiar face in the community as chairman of the Okra Strut Festival, stepped down from that role after his election win to fully dedicate himself to his responsibilities on the council. The annual festival, held each September, has grown under his leadership.
Professionally, Ward brings a background in cybersecurity and technology, owning two businesses in those industries. He is also a dedicated community advocate, serving as vice president of advocacy for the South Carolina PTA and president of the South Carolina chapter of InfraGard, an organization that works closely with the FBI to protect critical infrastructure.
Ward was accompanied by his wife, Melissa Ward, who held the Bible during the ceremony. He was sworn in by Town Administrator Courtney Dennis and will serve the remainder of the term, which runs through November 2027.
