Newberry winery to host charity run

Enoree River Winery will host a 5K Wine Run race run/walk through the vineyard in support of The William C. Blackmon Athletic Memorial Foundation.

The timed race will take place on March 26 beginning at 10 am.

Blackmon was a longtime Newberry resident, businessman and former football letterman at Newberry College who went on to serve the college as a Board Member and President of the Newberry College Athletic Board. He died of COVID in 2021.

The foundation’s goal is to become a catalyst for creating fundraising opportunities to build a state-of-the-art stadium for the athletes at Newberry College, as well as provide a scholarship for an upcoming football player.

To ensure the donation to the Blackmon Athletic Foundation register at https://bit.ly/EnoreeWineRun.

Runners are encouraged to register for the event, which winds through the 11 acres of Newberry’s only winery. Walkers are also encouraged to partake. Profits from the registration fee will be donated to the Blackmon Athletic Foundation. Registration includes a chip-embedded bib for accurate timing, a super soft-spun cotton t-shirt, a commemorative shatter-proof, collapsible, portable wine glass and a pour of wine upon completion. The route is on grass with a cross-country course that starts and finishes at the winery. This is not the optimal course for a professional runner.

The course is 2.5K, around 1.55 miles. In order to complete the 5K, you need to do 2 laps. If one lap is enough, then head to the wine station and enjoy your time.

Medals will be awarded in a variety of categories with the unique medal doubling as a bottle stopper.

Race results will be posted online on the production companies’ website. Team participation is encouraged.
