IRMO, S.C. — The Irmo Police Department, in coordination with local, state, and federal agencies, has arrested eight individuals during a recent undercover online sting targeting child predators.
During the operation, investigators posed as minors or adults with access to children through various social media platforms. Several suspects initiated conversations and expressed harmful intentions toward children. When the suspects attempted to meet with who they believed were minors for sexual activity, law enforcement officers were waiting.
“This operation sends a clear message,” said Irmo Police Chief Bobby Dale. “If you seek to harm our children, we will find you and you will be held accountable.”
The operation was part of the Internet Crimes Against Children (ICAC) Taskforce and included support from the South Carolina Attorney General’s Office, SLED SWAT, and numerous other agencies including the U.S. Army CID, Homeland Security, and the U.S. Secret Service.
