One Columbia Announces New Headquarters, Artist Grants, and Studio Opportunities

Columbia, S.C. — One Columbia for Arts and Culture is turning the page to an exciting new chapter as it expands its commitment to supporting the city’s vibrant creative community. With a new headquarters, the launch of a grassroots artist grant, and the next round of its popular artist-in-residence program, One Columbia continues to strengthen its role in shaping Columbia’s cultural landscape.

The organization is officially relocating its headquarters from Duke Avenue to the historic Ensor Keenan House, located at 801 Wildwood Avenue. This move marks a significant milestone in the group’s longstanding partnership with the City of Columbia.

“This space has the potential to truly bring art and culture to life in a community-centered way,” said Xavier Blake, Executive Director of One Columbia. “We’re grateful to the City of Columbia for their support, and we’re excited about the possibilities in a place with such rich history and promise.”

Columbia Mayor Daniel Rickenmann echoed those sentiments, emphasizing the broader impact of the move.

“This move for One Columbia is more than just a change of address; it’s a strategic step forward in our shared vision to foster a dynamic arts scene here in the Capital City,” said Rickenmann. “The move to the historic Ensor Keenan House signifies a deeper commitment to embedding arts and culture across our city, making creativity more accessible and visible for all residents.”

Artist Assistance Grant Program Launches

Along with its relocation, One Columbia is launching the Artist Assistance Grant, a new initiative aimed at providing local artists with unrestricted support. Seeded with $2,000 from a generous community donor and a matching contribution, the fund will award two $1,000 grants to help artists continue their creative work — whether that means covering materials, studio rent, or even rest and renewal.

“General support funding is rare but essential,” said Blake. “We want to empower artists to use the funds in the ways that will most meaningfully support their work.”

Details on how to apply will be released soon.

Garage Studio Residency Returns

Applications open August 1 for the second cohort of The Garage Studio, One Columbia’s free artist-in-residence program offering studio space and professional development. The current residents will wrap up their term on August 31, and the new group will be selected shortly after.
