For the past three years, members of McGregor Presbyterian Church and Pine Grove AME Church have collaborated on an Oral History Project. Their mission is to document the stories of elderly residents in the community, with a focus on African Americans, exploring what life was like growing up in the area. Topics covered in these interviews include education, work, church, and daily life.
Thanks to support from the University of South Carolina Libraries and a grant from the SC Humanities Council, the group is ready to share their findings with the community.
Join them on October 13 at 4 p.m. at Pine Grove AME Church, 120 Steward Drive, Columbia, for a special one-hour presentation. During the event, several group members will share insights from the project, followed by a short video presentation and a Q&A session.
Attendees will also receive brochures detailing more about the project, including a QR code to access the recorded interviews. Don’t miss this opportunity to learn about Irmo’s rich history through the voices of those who lived it!
