Carolina Wings in Ballentine transformed into a festive wonderland on December 7 as River Springs Elementary students, teachers, and parents gathered for their annual Polar Express celebration. Everyone, including Principal Matthew Gams, wore cozy pajamas while enjoying a breakfast of pancakes, sausage, and plenty of hot chocolate.
This year marked the seventh time Carolina Wings hosted the holiday event, complete with special guests Santa and Mrs. Claus, who listened to children’s Christmas wishes.
“I think I’ve seen all our students here this morning,” said Principal Gams. “The students really seem to enjoy it.”
With more than 400 students and parents attending during the two-hour celebration, the event was a joyful success. River Springs Elementary, home to 430 students from 4-year-old kindergarten through fifth grade, has made the Polar Express breakfast a cherished holiday tradition.
“It’s all part of the Christmas spirit,” said Carolina Wings owner Myra Schoolmeester. “We love our kids.”
The school is located at 115 Connie Wright Road in Irmo, and thanks to this community partnership, the holiday spirit shined brightly for students and families alike.
