Realignment has Irmo back in Class 4A

By Thomas Grant Jr.

After renewing a longstanding rivalry, it appears Irmo and Dutch Fork are headed towards separate classifications again.

The S.C. High School League released its final realignment list for the period covering the 2026-28 school years. Its latest student count has dropped Irmo back to Class 4A.

It was the only Class 5A school in Lexington County affected by realignment. Gray Collegiate Academy, which has a satellite school in Irmo, is expected to move up from Class 4A as a result of the 3.0 multiplier that adds each student who lives outside the school’s assigned area.
