Richland Democrats holding food, voter drive

The Richland County Democratic Party wants to help ease the burden of food insecurity in Richland County and help prepare citizens to vote on November 3.

From 1 – 3 pm on Labor Day, September 7, the party is sponsoring Drive-Thru Democracy – a food and voter registration drive.

“This event is about responding to a crisis. In the short term, we need to get food to people who are struggling. But in the long-term, we need to turn this ship around, which means voting,” said Matt Kisner, Chairman of the Richland County Democratic Party.

Drive-Thru Democracy will feature a non-perishable food drive, voter registration, absentee voting information and local candidates who are running for office. RCDP will have 11 sites throughout Richland County and will be practicing CDC guidelines, including wearing masks.

The party is preparing for people to drive through in their vehicles to drop off their food donations.

Food from the drive will be distributed to several sites, including: Blythewood Christian Assistance Bridge, Columbia Housing Authority, Christian Bridge Food Bank and Sharing God’s Love.
