COLUMBIA – Riverbanks Zoo and Garden officially opened the Saluda Skyride on August 29, marking a major milestone in its Bridge to the Wild vision for the future.
The new aerial transport system connects the Zoo and Botanical Garden campuses across the Saluda River, offering visitors a bird’s-eye view of the scenic landscape below. The Skyride features 19 modern cabins, each seating up to eight passengers, with universal access for wheelchairs and strollers. With the ability to carry up to 1,600 guests per hour, it provides a comfortable, efficient, and scenic ride for visitors of all ages.
The Saluda Skyride is the first major feature of Phase Two of Bridge to the Wild, Riverbanks’ multi-year expansion initiative. The project is expected to increase the Zoo’s annual economic impact in the Midlands to more than $175 million and create 500 new jobs.
“Bridge to the Wild is about forging connections—linking the Zoo and Botanical Garden, bringing people closer to wildlife, and building a bright future for our community,” said Tommy Stringfellow, president and CEO of Riverbanks Zoo and Garden. “The Saluda Skyride signifies just the beginning of our bold expansion, offering new opportunities for exploration, learning, and conservation that will benefit our region for years to come.”
Access to the Saluda Skyride is included with paid general admission or Zoo membership.
