Senior Prom brings the generations together

Leeza’s Care Connection is gearing up for The Senior Prom, on March 23 from 7 – 9 pm.

The night brings together everyone from high school and college seniors to Senior Citizens and everyone in between to dance the night away.

It will be held in the Gala Event Center at 1801 Bush River Road in Columbia.

“This is one of our favorite signature events,” said founder and CEO Leeza Gibbons, “Senior Prom is a rite of passage and most of us have special memories recalling a more innocent time in our lives. Our event comes complete with a Royal Court and culminates in naming a King and Queen”

Prom comes from the word Promenade and that’s exactly what they do at this event, as those who are nominated for the Court are escorted or promenaded through a line of cadets. Local businesses are invited to nominate someone from their staff or team to be presented on the Royal Court. The only requirement is that they be someone who represents “a joy for living at every age.”

“Some of our guests have never been to a prom before, and we are able to help them create that first time experience,” Special events coordinator Lily Averkamp said. “You should see their faces when they put on a corsage or boutonniere and take to the dance floor. That’s why this year we are giving everyone a chance to send a senior to prom by donating the price of a ticket”

One of the highlights is always the Intergenerational Showdown; a Family Feud-type live game that pits the youngsters against the senior citizens to see how much each side knows about the other.

“Don’t underestimate us older people,” Gibbons said. “Our team took down the youngsters last year, and we are back to defend our title this year.”

If you want to be part of the fun, send a senior to prom or attend, tickets are on sale now for $75 and sponsorships are still available at Leezascareconnection.org or you can contact [email protected].
