Shepherd’s Center session to begin April 7

If you are interested in stretching your mind and body while making new friends, consider registering for the Shepherd’s Center of St. Andrews Spring Session of Adventures in Learning, which begins April 7.

The Center, an interfaith learning program for active adults aged 50 and older, meets Tuesdays onsite at Center headquarters, Ashland United Methodist Church, 2600 Ashland Road, Columbia, and Wednesdays and Thursdays via Zoom for the eight-week session.

Subject courses and activity classes, taught by volunteers from local colleges and the community, range from chair yoga to “The World’s Religions: An Exploration of Faith and Culture.” At the Center you can also plumb “Secrets of the Temple,” those myths and mysteries associated with the medieval Knights Templar; enjoy a musical trip back in time to celebrate “Girls’ Singing Groups: When Music Was Real Music”; or drop into the “Men’s Corner,” a shared dialogue about being an older man in today’s world. And you can study Spanish, join the “Strumming Fun Jam” for uke, banjo, guitar, and mandolin, craft a pine-straw basket, or play Mah Jongg, all the while improving your skills in quilting, crochet, bridge, line dancing, and watercolor.

It’s all detailed at shepherdscenterofstandrews.org.

Many classes are recorded to be enjoyed at the participant’s leisure. Registered members can also enjoy classes from the Center’s library of recordings from past sessions. Some of the Center’s most popular offerings are available to all comers who visit shepherdscenterofstandrews.org and scroll down.

The Spring Session costs $45 for unlimited classes and activities. For more information, course descriptions, and registration details, go to shepherdscenterofstandrews.org, or contact the Center office, 803-731- 9394 to request a session brochure.
